Walking For Fitness

Walking is one of the cheapest and convenient ways to exercise. The benefits of walking are great as well. Using a pedometer has helped me a great deal. I feel better when I walk. I am less stressed and I also feel like I have incorporated physical activity into my daily routine with little effort.

Walking really helps you become physically fit. There is a lot of research that suggests that walking can play a huge role in helping you to stay fit.

Experts Say Walking Really Works

Researchers at Brigham and Women's Hospital found that elderly women who engaged in physical activity such as walking had a 20 percent decrease in risk of cognitive impairment compared to those who were inactive.

Several studies show that walking has been linked to reducing the chance of getting type 2 diabetes. It has been noted that walking at least 30 minutes a day will reduce your chance for diabetes by almost 60 percent.

Researchers at the Duke University Medical Center, report that 30 minutes per day of walking can prevent weight gain in most people who are physically inactive.

Walking has also been linked to slowing the rate of bone loss in the legs and reducing the risk of colon and breast cancer.

How can I incorporate walking into my everyday lifestyle?

So many times I have heard people say that they don’t exercise because they don’t like gyms or because they cant afford the expensive membership fees.

The great thing about walking is that it is an option that does not require you to spend one second in the gym. You can walk virtually anywhere and it does not cost a dime.

You can walk in the mall, at the park, around the neighborhood-the options are endless. I suggest that you also try this great video,

Walk Away the Pounds. Good Times Entertainment It is easy and fun. Trust me I am a big skeptic of work out programs but this one actually works and you will not get tired of the routine.

In the past, I have had a small work out area and this video does not require you to need a big open space. If you have enough space to walk in place you are set. I usually do the one mile walk in the mornings and the three mile walk on the weekends.
