Managing Stress

We all have stress. However, we all manage stress differently. Some people eat. Some don’t. Some people sleep while other people suffer with insomnia.

There are tons of techniques that experts claim will help, but the bottom line is this- you must find techniques that work for you.

If you hate the outdoors, going for a brisk walk in the park is not the answer. How about watching your favorite movie instead?

Think Like A Winner

Ah Ha! I know you are probably wondering, what that is supposed to mean. Well, we are constantly thinking about losing a challenge before we ever get started. This definitely leads to stress.

You can’t possibly be anything other than stressed, when you are thinking negatively about a situation.

Negative thinking leads to negative feelings. For an emotional eater, negative thoughts are a segway to overeating.

Thinking Like A Winner, is an important technique to use when managing stress and can make a big difference.

Why? Because we think constantly.

If your thoughts are constantly negative and your coping mechanism is to eat. Then you will do just that.

Habits are hard to break-start small

Counter one constant negative thought with a positive solution. For instance, around Thanksgiving I would think without fail, “I am going to gain at least five pounds.”

And you know what? Every year around thanksgiving I would gained at least five pounds?

Changing a negative into a positive

Last Thanksgiving I had the same negative thought. I am going to gain at least five pounds. Then I immediately thought, “No, I am going to maintain my weight. It is just another day."

That positive thought led to me being mindful of my food intake. I was not stressed about the ‘possibility’of gaining weight. Therefore, my weight stayed the same!
